What happened

The Big Data and AI Working Group plans to expose an updated version for comment before a possible Fall 2026 adoption vote.

At the NAIC's 2026 Summer National Meeting, the Big Data and Artificial Intelligence Working Group said its AI Risk Evaluation Supplement has been piloted in 12 states since March, used in market conduct and financial exams and as a standalone questionnaire on insurer AI governance. An updated version is due this month, followed by public comment, with adoption targeted for the NAIC's Fall meeting.

What is verified

The source's own statement, as linked above. Nothing beyond it has been independently checked by us.

What remains unclear

Not yet adopted. Which insurers have been examined with the supplement, and how many, is not disclosed in this summary.

What it means for your book

Carriers and MGAs with delegated authority in the 12 pilot states should expect AI governance questions in exams now, not after Fall adoption.

  • Ask your compliance team whether your state is one of the 12 pilot states.
  • Have AI governance documentation ready before an exam, not during one.
